Feel seen and heard.
Feel secure enough to ask questions, even if the student thinks it might be a silly question.
Feel comfortable in my classroom and around me as their teacher and as my students.

Italian Gelati class came up with a strange idea for lunch: Passionfruit, cut in half, with finely chopped and cooked onions and apples on top of the fruit. I asked, "Would you really eat that?" They said, "YES!" So, I prepared their unique dish and I tried it with them. This was a highlight and fun experiment for the Italian Gelati class.
